HBO released the first footage of the upcoming live-action series adaptation of The Last of Us. The footage was revealed as part of a promotional trailer released by HBO that also featured other titles such as Succession, The White Lotus, House of the Dragon, plus more. At the 1:40 minute mark of the promo trailer, we see the transition that features the upcoming series adaptation dropping iconic lines from the video games.
HBO‘s description of the series reads:
“The series takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”
The series stars Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsay, Storm Reid, Nick Offerman, Anna Torv, Merle Dandridge, Gabriel Luna, Nico Parker, Jeffrey Pierce, and Murray Bartlett. Also previously announced during the Summer Game Fest presentation was that original voice actors of Ellie and Joel Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker will appear in the series in undisclosed roles.
The first episode of The Last of Us will be directed by Kantemir Balagov. Original game creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin are listed as creators for The Last of Us and will also serve as executive producers.
The Last of Us is expected to premiere on HBO sometime in early 2023. Check out the promo trailer below:
