Marvel Announces the End of the Krakoa Era at NYCC With Fall of the House of X & Rise of the Powers of X

Marvel Comics has officially confirmed that the current Krakoan era of the X-Men will come to an end in 2024. Announced at New York Comic Con, this marks the conclusion of a saga that began with House of X and Powers of X in 2019. The finale will be presented through two interconnected miniseries: Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X, marking the end of the Krakoan era in the same way that it began.

Fall of the House of X, written by Gerry Duggan and illustrated by Lucas Werneck, will delve into the aftermath of the Fall of X storyline. Krakoa, once a prosperous nation, is now on the verge of collapse. Cyclops will be on trial for his life, and the remaining mutants will make their last stand against Orchis, heightening the stakes even further.

Rise of the Powers of X, written by Kieron Gillen and illustrated by R.B. Silva, takes place ten years into the future. In this series, the X-Men unite to prevent Nimrod and Omega Sentinel from summoning their machine god and destroying Earth. As previously hinted at, the true enemy in the everlasting war between humanity and mutantkind is revealed to be machine intelligence.

Al Ewing, the writer of X-Men Red, will contribute to the final chapter of the Krakoan Age with his own series, Resurrection of Magneto. Working alongside artist Luciano Vecchio, Ewing explores the possibility of resurrecting Magneto, one of the few mutants to have remained deceased during this era. Storm will lead the charge in bringing him back to life, but the broken resurrection circuit poses a challenge. Will Magneto even desire to return?

Resurrection of Magneto

All three new series—Fall of the House of X, Rise of the Powers of X, and Resurrection of Magneto—will debut in January 2024 ushering in the conclusion of the Krakoan era.
