An Audible Original

Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is a thrilling addition to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe, offering fans a fresh perspective on the iconic series. One of the standout aspects of this new story is the exceptional performance of the voice actors, who expertly capture the essence of their original characters. Juliet Landau’s return as Drusilla is a particular highlight, as she seamlessly slips back into the role of the twisted and evil vampire. Her ability to make you cringe with her creepy laugh and demented ways make her return one of the best parts of the 3-part series.

James Marsters who played Spike in the original television show is reprising his role as the vampire who pretends to be bad. Marsters explains he didn’t actually die at the end of the Buffy TV show, which as a fan of Spike, I was thrilled to find out. You follow Spike as he comes into contact with a new slayer and helps fix the mess Drusilla created in an alternate reality where Drusilla is queen of the vamps alongside her girlfriend Tara who is queen of the witches.

Slayers excels in its ability to integrate the new narrative into the original Buffy storyline. The story takes place several years after the events of the TV series, allowing for meaningful character development and progression. The writers balance nostalgia with fresh and exciting plotlines. It’s clear that they understand the source material, and they manage to deliver a story that both honors the past and explores new, intriguing territory.

While the show introduces new characters and adversaries, it never strays too far from the essence of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The blend of action, drama, and humor that made the original series so beloved is still very much present in Slayers, and the familiar wit and sarcasm of the characters remain intact.

Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is a must-listen for any fan of the original series. The voice actors’ performances are outstanding, effectively drawing viewers back into the Buffyverse. The integration of the new story into the original series is seamless, allowing for both nostalgia and fresh developments. Whether you’re a long-time Buffy fan or a newcomer to the franchise, Slayers is a thrilling and satisfying addition to the Buffy mythology that’s sure to leave fans eager for more adventures in this supernatural world.
