Edge Cast in Percy Jackson and the Olympians as the God of War Ares
WWE Hall of Famer and current WWE Superstar Edge has been cast as the God of War Ares in the upcoming Disney+ series adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Edge, whose real name is Adam Copeland will have a recurring role in the series in which he is described as having a devilish charm who sews chaos around him.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+ will be the second adaptation of the popular book series by author Rick Riordan as the series was previously adapted to film in 2010 with a sequel in 2013. The films fell a bit flat among fans and also book readers and only managed to adapt the first two books of the five-book series. The Disney+ series finds itself in better waters as Riordan will executive produce the series which should bode well for the production with the mind behind it all being a valuable resource for the adaptation.
The series is directed by James Bobin and the series will look to adapt the first book in the series by Riordan titled Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Check out the book’s description below:
“Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is on the most dangerous quest of his life. With the help of a satyr and a daughter of Athena, Percy must journey across the United States to catch a thief who has stolen the original weapon of mass destruction — Zeus’ master bolt. Along the way, he must face a host of mythological enemies determined to stop him. Most of all, he must come to terms with a father he has never known, and an Oracle that has warned him of betrayal by a friend.”
The current series plan is to adapt a book for each season of the Disney+ series which would make it a 5 season plan. Of course, this all depends on the numbers and reaction from fans but those who saw the trailer at D23 are hopeful of a truer adaptation of the book series. Joining Edge on the series is Walker Scobell, Leah Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Dior Goodjohn, Charlie Bushnell, Glynn Turman, Mr. Brunner, Virginia Kull, Jason Mantzoukas, Suzanne Cryer, and Jessica Parker.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians will release exclusively on Disney+ in 2024.
