Wytches Animated Horror Series Ordered By Prime Video
Prime Video has ordered an animated horror series adaptation of the comic book series Wytches. The streaming platform will bring to life the critically acclaimed comic book series Scott Snyder and Jock alongside Plan B Entertainment, Amazon Studios, and Project 51.
The six-issue comic book series was released in 2014 and follows Sailor Rook who moved to the town of Litchfield with her family after an incident with a school bully. After the bully goes missing during the incident, this is their attempt to begin anew but as rumors begin to spread in the new town, revelations of the Rook family and the supernatural presence in Litchfield begin to surface. What the Rook family hoped would be a new beginning turns into a bone-chilling encounter with evil in the woods just beyond the town.
Melissa Wolfe, head of animation at Amazon Studios praises the dark lore of Wytches, saying:
“Driven by the pairing of Scott and Jock along with our partners at Plan B and Project 51 Productions, Wytches fuses nail biting horror and evocative drama while unearthing the dark lore surrounding an ancient burrow of witches. Given the haunting and intimate nature of Scott and Jock’s well regarded comic series, we are looking forward to delivering their creative vision to our global audience and expanding our growing roster of animated series.”
Snyder shares that this series is his most personal work, saying:
“Wytches is possibly my most personal work. It’s all about the monsters that dwell beneath the surface of things, both literally and figuratively. I’ve been intimately involved with this animated series from the start, and I can honestly say that I love this show as much as the book, if not more. The animation brings the incredible art by Jock to life, and the episodic format expands the world of Wytches, taking the characters and mythology to terrifying new places. Jock and I are deeply grateful to Plan B Entertainment, Kevin Kolde, and Amazon Studios for believing in Wytches and giving us a chance to make this show dark, personal, twisted, and very special.”
Snyder and Jock will be on board the series to executive produce alongside Plan B Entertainment, Project 51′ Kevin Kolde, and Amazon Studios.
Wytches as an animated series is an intriguing combination as it should help elevate the creepiness and gruesome blend of the phenomenal artwork set forth by Jock. The story is already in place as Snyder has always had a palette for delivering influential narrative concepts and a taste for dark horror. As an animated series, this gives them plenty of opportunity to take the beauty of the source material and really run with it and I cannot wait to see what comes out of this.

No release date or other updates were given on Wytches but stay tuned as more information becomes available.
