Which Childhood Trends Are Making a Comeback This Decade

Nostalgia is a major factor that leads the world today, and it’s not going to go away. Here’s which childhood trends are making a comeback this decade.

While trends come and go, the last decade has proved that many of those trends can come right back. People love reliving their childhood, whether in the form of watching old shows, remakes, readaptations, or limited-edition rereleases. This trend of trends coming back isn’t going to stop any time soon, but which childhood trends are making their comeback this decade?

TV Show Reboots

A huge trend that many kids went through was the era of coming home from school, watching the same shows as all of their friends, and talking about them the next day at school. As people got older, there were more channels available and things to do, so many people stopped watching the same shows as each other. However, as those kids got older, they started missing those shows, and TV studios took notice. A wide variety of shows have already gotten or are getting reboots, such as

  • Full House
  • iCarly
  • Zoey 101
  • Scooby-Doo
  • Gilmore Girls
  • Powerpuff Girls
  • Samurai Jack
  • Veronica Mars
  • The X-Files

While not all of these have been hits, they have come back and given adults something to gather around the water cooler and talk about again.

Trading Cards

One of the biggest childhood trends that have made major waves in the last decade is trading cards. Card trading has made a huge comeback this decade, and while some of it has to do with general nostalgia, another reason it’s grown so much is because of the internet. People can talk about their hobbies and make something like trading cards popular again. In addition to being able to talk about cards, the internet offered a platform for people to buy and trade them, boosting their growth and popularity even more.

Early 2000s Fashion

If you want to see how childhood trends are coming back into style, all you need to do is look at fashion. Many trends and clothes that society deemed as not fashionable anymore are quickly coming back into style. The 2010s was the era of skinny jeans and tight-fitting clothes, but baggier jeans, chunky sneakers, and large sweaters are returning.

These clothes have a lot of potential, and people are more willing to experiment and take their clothes to the limit. On the other hand, people are also willing to keep things simple and don’t feel the need to stand out as much as before. Both takes on these early 2000s fashion trends exist today and don’t seem to be going away any time soon.

A lot of childhood trends are making a comeback this decade, but it can be difficult to predict which other trends will stay or fade away just as quickly as they did before. Many brands like to capitalize on these waves of nostalgia, but it’s a gamble. Something an executive may think will resonate with the public could easily fail. Meanwhile, consumers are bringing artists, toys, and trends back from the grave without the help of marketing or businesses.
