When the Blood Has Dried: A New Fantasy/Action Series Arrives from Mad Cave

Mad Cave Studios has announced the upcoming release of When The Blood Has Dried, a Teen+ Fantasy/Action Drama series penned by the talented Irish creator Gary Moloney (Down Below, Fractured Realm). The series features art by fan-favorite illustrator and RPG creator Daniel Romero Ulloa, along with letters by Becca Carey.

The series will showcase a main cover designed by celebrated Canadian artist Marco Rudy, and a variant cover by renowned creator Declan Shalvey (Deadpool).

Years ago, a stranger arrived at Carraig an Bhun, a small town nestled at the edge of the Southern Territories. Initially perceived as an outsider, Meabh of Cklonia, or the “blow-in,” eventually became an integral part of the community. Meabh now oversees The Lough Inn, seeking solace after a lifetime of adventures.

However, the proposed arrival of an Adventurers’ Guild branch threatens to unearth her tumultuous past. How will the townsfolk react upon discovering that their beloved barkeep was once involved with a ruthless band of rogue sell-swords posing as noble heroes?

Gary Moloney expressed his excitement about bringing When The Blood Has Dried to Mad Cave Studios, noting that the story explores living with the remorse of a violent past when forgiveness and redemption seem unattainable.

His intention was to reimagine epic fantasy through the lens of a spaghetti western, dismantling the archetypal heroes. Moloney also aimed to infuse the story with a distinctive Irish perspective, reclaiming the genre from its tendency to utilize Irish language, folklore, and culture merely as a backdrop.

Daniel Romero Ulloa also shared his enthusiasm for the project, describing it as a realization of his deepest emotions and experiences. He dedicated his soul to the creation, aiming for every reader to carry a piece of the story with them.

James Emmett, the Mad Cave editor, lauded Moloney’s ability to subvert expectations within the fantasy genre, particularly through the exploration of familiar tropes and the confrontation of a tumultuous past.

The world of When The Blood Has Dried is vividly brought to life by Daniel Romero’s artwork, complemented by Becca Carey’s letters, and the striking covers crafted by Marco Rudy.

When The Blood Has Dried #1, is set to hit your favorite local comic shops on April 3rd, 2024.
