John Boyega to Star in TV Series Prequel to The Book of Eli

According to a report by Deadline, John Boyega is set to executive produce and star in a TV series prequel to The Book of Eli. Deadline’s sources suggest that Boyega will portray a younger version of Eli, the character originally played by Denzel Washington in the titular film.

The series is said to unfold 30 years prior to the events of The Book of Eli, around the time of the nuclear apocalypse that sets the stage for the film. Original The Book of Eli writer and co-writer of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Gary Whitta, is reportedly back on the project, as are the Hughes brothers Albert and Allen Hughes as executive producers.

Additionally, Alcon Entertainment is involved, though the project is still seeking a buyer.

If the project is picked up, it would mark a significant role for Boyega who previously starred in Disney‘s Star Wars franchise. The original The Book of Eli debuted in 2010 as a post-apocalyptic action film, revolving around a man named Eli and his mission to deliver a mysterious book across a nuclear wasteland.

The film featured a star-studded cast including Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Jennifer Beals, and the late Ray Stevenson. Stay tuned for more information on the The Book of Eli series.
