At the highly anticipated Future of Marvel Comics‘ X-Men and Digital Comics panel, Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and VP, Executive Editor Tom Brevoort stood shoulder to shoulder with celebrated writers Jed MacKay and Gail Simone to herald the dawn of a new era: X-MEN: FROM THE ASHES.
Prepare yourselves for a surge of evolved DNA as these three titanic flagship titles, helmed by visionary creators, redefine the boundaries of mutant storytelling. Led by Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman‘s X-MEN, Gail Simone, and David Marquez‘s UNCANNY X-MEN, and Eve L. Ewing and Carmen Carnero‘s EXCEPTIONAL X-MEN, this holy trinity of comics promises to delve into uncharted territories while honoring the rich legacy of the X-Men.
In X-MEN, penned by the masterful Jed MacKay and brought to life by the artistic prowess of Ryan Stegman, the mutants find refuge in the icy expanses of Alaska. As the remnants of Krakoa fade into obscurity, Cyclops, Beast, Magneto, and their compatriots stand tall against a tide of new threats. MacKay teased, “This is where we’ll see the first inklings of what the X-Men will look like in 2024.” Brace yourselves for a mutant revolution unlike any other!
Earlier this morning, Ryan Stegman posted to X saying, “My goal with the X-men is to help restore the mutants to their rightful place atop the industry’s sales charts. To me, that’s the healthiest the comic industry can be. X-men is for everyone.”

Meanwhile, Gail Simone and David Marquez’s UNCANNY X-MEN transports readers to the vibrant streets of the Big Easy. Rogue, Gambit, Nightcrawler, and Wolverine take center stage, embodying the uncanny resilience of their kind. Simone promised, “You’re going to feel what it means to have that thing about you that’s different, or exceptional.” With Marquez’s breathtaking artwork, prepare for a visual feast that transcends the boundaries of imagination!
The internet has been no stranger to Gail’s quips and humor, most of which can be found in a rolling snowball of critique aimed at Cyclops. However, Gail’s love and respect for this medium is second to none, and this writer is BUZZING over the threats, dramatics, and laughs Simone has planned for our favorite gang of mutants.
The surprises don’t end there! In EXCEPTIONAL X-MEN, crafted by the incomparable Eve L. Ewing and Carmen Carnero, a new generation of mutants emerges under the tutelage of Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost. Ewing shared her excitement, “Kitty, the one-time kid sister figure of the X-Men, has to reckon with her own memories… as she navigates a role as leader and mentor for a new generation of mutants.” Get ready to witness the birth of legends!
One of my favorite elements of the Krakoan saga was the evolving relationship between Kate and Emma, and I’m excited to see how that extends into EXCEPTIONAL X-MEN.
Marvel Comics VP Executive Editor Tom Brevoort shed light on the overarching narrative, stating, “The X-Men are fractured in the aftermath of the end of Krakoa, scattered across the globe without a central base of operation.” This pivotal moment sets the stage for an exhilarating array of X-titles, each catering to diverse tastes and preferences.
Marvel even dropped an X-hilarating video showcasing the new flagship books.
