The Office Reboot Reportedly in the Works
The longtime favorite workplace sitcom that we rewatch every year and still quote daily is reportedly getting the reboot treatment. The Office entertained audiences from 2005 to 2013 with its brilliant humor and relatable characters that we still love to this day.
Now, there are rumors of a reboot on the horizon. This news follows right after the resolution of a five-month-long writers’ strike, the two sides have reached a tentative agreement that is being worked to be finalized.
Set in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the show revolves around the employees of a fictional paper and stationery company. According to writers Matthew Belloni and Jonathan Handel, original showrunner Greg Daniels is expected to spearhead the reboot.
Although all the characters in the series are still loved, one of the standout characters of The Office is Michael Scott, brilliantly portrayed by Steve Carell. Scott’s socially awkward yet endearing nature captivated viewers and although he would make you cringe at times, the heartfelt moments featuring Michael Scott showed why he was one of the greatest TV characters created.
The ensemble cast also includes Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Mindy Kaling, Craig Robinson, B.J. Novak, Creed Bratton, Angela Kinsey, Oscar Nunez, Ellie Kemper, and Ed Helms. Krasinski and Kaling have even expressed their interest in revisiting their respective roles which would make for a magnificent revisit to Scranton for longtime fans. Krasinski and Fischer had a series spanning love story that had us cheering for them every step of the way.
The Office was based on a UK series of the same name which had a two-season run and premiered in 2001. The series was created, written, and directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Gervais also starred in the series as they followed the workplace shenanigans in the Slough branch of the Wernham Hogg paper company.
Details about the reboot are scarce, it remains to be seen whether it will feature the original cast or take the form of a series extension. Nonetheless, whether you love the series or hate it, the potential for more memorable moments in the future is intriguing, to say the least.
