André Øvredal’s adaptation is bringing a different energy than that we saw in Nicolas Cageand Nicholas Hoult‘s Reinfeld as we see in the trailer it brings a very dark and grim adaptation as the crew on the Russian vessel unknowingly takes on the task of transporting Dracula himself and throughout the voyage begin to disappear.
The synopsis for the film reads:
Based on a single chilling chapter from Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula, The Last Voyage of the Demeter tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo—fifty unmarked wooden crates—from Carpathia to London.
The film stars David Dastmalchian, Corey Hawkins, Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, Chris Walley, Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic, Martin Furulund, Nikolai Nikolaeff, Woody Norman, and Javier Botet. Øvredal helmed the film based on a script written by Bragi F. Schut and Zak Olkewicz.
The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a story told in a chapter of Bram Stoker‘s Dracula novel telling the story of the Russian merchant vessel and the film looks to expand on the short recounting of the vessel’s demise that spoiler alert, leaves no survivors. The film looks to adapt the story by amplifying the atmospheric dread that spreads throughout the vessel as those on board the vessel begin to disappear one by one and also gives us a menacing-looking Dracula with an unquenchable thirst for blood.
