Sydney Sweeney to Star in Barbarella Remake
Sydney Sweeney is set to star and executive produce in the upcoming Sony Pictures remake of the classic sci-fi film Barbarella. Sweeney is already working with the studio on the upcoming Madame Web film adaptation alongside Dakota Johnson.
According to Deadline, the film finds itself in the very early stages with no writer or director attached and Sweeney is the only producer on the film for the time being but Sweeney is set to headline the film as the titular character.
The film will be a remake of the1968 Jane Fonda-led film. The story of Barbarella originated from a series of French comic books created by Jean-Claude Forest who found the titular character searching for an evil scientist in the 41st century to attempt to stop him and his weapon created to destroy the entire human race.
Sweeney has risen to stardom since she appeared on the hit HBO TV series Euphoria and also The White Lotus, roles which both earned her Emmy nominations and have made her one of the most pursued actresses as of late. Along with Madame Web, she will also work alongside Sony Pictures on the film The Registration and is set to star alongside Simon Rex in National Anthem with an upcoming biopic Reality Winner which she will lead.
