Superman is a Huge Priority According to James Gunn
DC Studios has yet to fully reveal the big plan they have for the DCEU. James Gunn and Peter Safran will eventually unveil their master plan for the film universe and we have already seen some of these projects canceled and rumored to be canceled. Wonder Woman 3 did not align with the plans they have for the DCEU which reportedly led to Patty Jenkins leaving the project after her disagreement with the decision. We also heard the buzzing of Man of Steel 2 being scrapped and Henry Cavill‘s future as Superman being brought into question.
One thing that can be admired about Gunn is his willingness to connect with fans and address their concerns directly. A fan asked Gunn via Twitter if we will see Superman in the new DC universe and Gunn was happy to reply, writing, “Yes of course. Superman is a huge priority, if not the biggest priority.”
Although this doesn’t guarantee the Superman we see will be Cavill’s Superman, it does give us hope to see him reprise the role once again after his appearance in the post-credit scene of Black Adam. Even with the stalling of development on Man of Steel 2, Cavill could very well fit into their plans in another manner much like is the hope with Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman. Jason Momoa is also expected to see his last reprisal as Aquaman in Aquaman 2 but reports are that Momoa will still be involved in this new venture at DC Studios with many hoping this means the launch of another Momoa-led franchise as Lobo.
There is also the news of the Snyderverse being put to bed altogether. All the news stemmed from an article that reported this from an unnamed source to which Gunn eventually responded on social media, saying, “some of it is true, some of it is half-true, some of it is not true, & some of it we haven’t decided yet whether it’s true or not.”
Gunn and Safran’s long-term plans for the DCEU will see the light of day once they have a solid idea as to the path they are taking fans into. Until then, many questions are arising and luckily, Gunn is open to answer what he can. Stay tuned as more information becomes available.
