Exciting news emerged from the Anime Expo 2023 panel as WIT Studios and Warner Bros. Japan unveiled its latest collaboration: Suicide Squad Isekai. This upcoming anime series has already generated buzz among fans, thanks to its unique concept and impressive lineup of talent.

With the directorial prowess of Eri Osada and the creative input from screenwriters Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara, Suicide Squad Isekai promises to be a thrilling addition to the anime world. To further stoke anticipation, a teaser was unveiled at the panel, giving fans a glimpse into the fantastical world that awaits them.

Suicide Squad Isekai takes an intriguing twist on the isekai genre, merging it with the concept of the renowned Suicide Squad franchise from DC Comics.

the added talent behind the series of screenwriters Nagatsuki and Umehara should be a reason for excitement. Nagatsuki, acclaimed for his work on Re: Zero − Starting Life in Another World, and Umehara, known for his contributions to titles like Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song brings a level of creative expertise and scriptwriting prowess. Their involvement further solidifies the anticipation surrounding Suicide Squad Isekai.

The teaser for Suicide Squad Isekai provided a tantalizing glimpse into the world, showcasing the vibrant animation, dynamic action sequences, and intriguing character designs that await viewers. While brief, the teaser managed to generate excitement and left fans eager for more.

Speaking of the new project, Amano shared their love of Harley Quinn, saying:

I‘m a big fan of Harley Quinn and the other characters in the Suicide Squad movie! It’s an honor for me to be involved in the creation of Suicide Squad ISEKAI.

Eri Osada’s clear vision for Harley’s design made the process smoother than expected, and I enjoyed drawing her costume and muscles while imagining her action-packed adventures in the story. I’m excited to see how the talented animation staff brings Suicide Squad ISEKAI to life!

Nagatsuki added:

It is finally announced, Suicide Squad ISEKAI. ISEKAI! Suicide Squad! Who has ever thought about mixing these two!? But this is sure to be a dream project. Crazy villains go on a rampage in ISEKAI! It’s nothing more, nothing less, and it can’t be anything else!

Umehara chimed in asking what would happen if the DC characters wound up in a different world, saying:

What would happen if the fascinating characters of DC Comics went to another world? I am honored to be involved in a work with such a boyish and straightforward idea. I drew a variety of villains with one goal in mind; to make Harley look cute! I hope you will join me in enjoying and enlivening this World.

Lastly, Tsuruoka of Warner Bros. Japan said:

Japanese anime has attracted widespread popularity among global audience in these days and “ISEKAI fantasy” now is one of the most popular genres. What if DC characters such as Harley Quinn and The Joker rampages in ISEKAI? This is truly an outrageous anime project we deliver for a global audience from Japan. I am thrilled to work with WIT STUDIO for this dream project which only Warner Bros. Japan could produce. Please look forward to the original story and DC characters’ blast in ISEKAI.

The collaboration between Wit Studios and Warner Bros. Japan promises to deliver stunning animation and captivating storytelling. Drawing from the established Suicide Squad universe but with their own unique flair, fans can expect a compelling narrative that blends action, suspense, and unexpected character development.

Osada already noted that we will get a different version of Joker as they have opted to not copy any previous version and instead bring a fresh and unique take which is VERY exciting to hear among the very scarce details.
