Stranger Things Animated Series Coming to Netflix
Netflix has revealed that a Stranger Things animated series is coming to the streamer. Netflix has greenlit the series which will expand one of its most popular IPs. The nostalgia-infused universe created by Matt and Ross Duffer will see an animated take on the 80s from Flying Bark Productions. Erick Robles joins as executive producer on the series.
The series is currently untitled and not many details have been shared as far the plot of the animated series or which characters current or new would be involved but the Duffer brothers did share a joint statement, saying:
“We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling. We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…”
With more details surely to come in the future, one thing fans can look forward to is the Duffer brothers involvement in the series as executive producers through their Upside Down Pictures banner and Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen joining to executive produce through 21 Laps.
Dark Horse Comics has done the property an immense service by publishing comic books and graphic novels within the universe that have both provided unique stories within the universe and also expanded on characters in the flagship series as well. It would be good to see the same approach on the animated series or possibly expand it further with a brand-new slate of characters and a new era to explore as the Upside Down comes down on a whole new ragtag group of heroes.
Stay tuned as more information becomes available.
