Smile Sequel in Development at Paramount Pictures
Paramount Pictures announced during CinemaCon 2023 that a Smile sequel is in development at the studio. The film induced panic in the entire nation with its unique ad campaign which saw the signature creepy smile popping up seemingly everywhere, including professional baseball games led to a film that turned into supernatural horror hit. The film followed Sosie Bacon‘s Rose whose patient Laura (Caitlin Stasey) is terrorized by an entity that manifests as different people in their lives with a bizarre smile.
The film takes a sinister turn as Laura ends her life in front of Rose who then leaves the entity looking to then terrorize Rose. As the entity’s disruption of her life begins to heighten and Rose realizes her life is now at stake. She begins to investigate the mystery behind it all and uncovers a long line of mysterious deaths and leads Rose and viewers into a rabbit hole of supernatural attacks.
After earning $220M in theaters it went on to be a hit on Paramount+ as well when it finally made its way to the streaming platform. Considering the earnings against a $17M budget, it’s no surprise to see the studio jump back into this corner of horror that still has untapped potential. The events that unfold in the film bode a question of what the plot of the sequel will be but the film appears to be in the early development stages as no director or writers were announced to be attached as well as no plot details were shared.
Stay tuned as more information on the Smile sequel is unveiled.
