Shōgun Trailer Reveals FX’s Upcoming Feudal Japan Epic

FX has just released the trailer for Shōgun, an upcoming limited series that is based on the best-selling novel by James Clavell. This highly anticipated production has been in the works for some time, and the trailer showcases its blockbuster-level quality, making it evident why it has taken so long for any news to surface. Although we have to exercise a bit of patience, as the series is scheduled to premiere in February 2024, FX has not yet disclosed the exact release date.

Set in Japan during the 1600s, Shōgun stars Hiroyuki Sanada as Lord Yoshii Toranaga. Lord Toranaga finds himself amid a Civil War as the Japanese clash with Europeans. He is faced with a surprising alliance that has the potential to sway the tides in his favor. Toda Mariko, played by Anna Sawai, serves as the connective thread between Japanese and European revolutionaries. Mariko is a woman torn between her religious beliefs and her heritage from a disgraced family.

Drawing inspiration from renowned Japanese cinema masterpieces such as Akira Kurosawa‘s “The Seven Samurai” and “Ran,” Shōgun is co-created and showrun by Justin Marks. Marks, who co-wrote Top Gun: Maverick, also penned the live-action remake of The Jungle Book and created the TV series Counterpart for Starz. In addition to Sanada and Sawai, the series boasts an impressive cast including Tadanobu Asano, Hiroto Kanai, Takehiro Hira, Moeka Hoshi, Tokuma Nishioka, Shinnosuke Abe, Yuki Kura, Fumi Nikaido, and Cosmo Jarvis.

Shōgun premieres on FX in February 2024. Check out the trailer for Shōgun below:
