Shawn Levy Will Direct the MCU Sequel Deadpool 3
Shawn Levy has been brought in to direct the first MCU sequel Deadpool 3. Levy has been working with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds on a couple of hit films with Free Guy and the recently released Netflix film The Adam Project. This will mark the first sequel produced under the MCU after Disney‘s acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
Deadpool 2 was released in 2018 and starred Reynolds and the merc with a mouth alongside Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz. The film earned an astonishing $785M globally at the box office and introduced fans to Brolin’s Cable and Beetz Domino. Since the acquisition, fans have been eagerly waiting to know when these characters will make their official appearance as MCU characters.
Something on many fans’ minds is how dialed down Deadpool will be under Marvel Studios‘ production. They are known for the less intense takes on characters and Deadpool has the reputation to be quite the opposite thanks to Reynold’s portrayal, Deadpool has found a huge fanbase thanks to his R-rated take on the hero.
With Disney introducing the Netflix Marvel series that includes Daredevil and The Punisher, and Disney+ implementing stricter parental controls to account for such content, it could leave a slight window of opportunity for Disney to loosen the reigns on films such as Deadpool.
Reynolds celebrated the announcement by sharing a poster showing the three Reynolds characters that will be under Levy’s helm, saying:
“The third film in my Shawn Levy trilogy will be a tad more stabby.”
No release date has been announced for Deadpool 3.
