Séance in the Asylum: Dark Horse Peers Beyond the Veil in New Series

Dark Horse Comics is thrilled to present Séance in the Asylum, a gripping historical horror series penned by writer Clay McLeod Chapman. With haunting illustrations by Andrea Mutti, this upcoming series will challenge the boundaries of reality and illusion, leaving readers spellbound.

Set in 1865, the story revolves around the defrauded spiritual medium, Alicia Wilkinson, as she finds herself ensnared within the enigmatic walls of The Ashcroft Hospital, at the urging of Dr. John James Templeton.

Tasked with orchestrating séances amongst the institution’s afflicted patients as a means to unearth their inner torments, Alicia soon discovers that her performances may be wielding unforeseen and terrifying influences. Unbeknownst to all, Alicia harbors a profound secret—she is a counterfeit, a deceiver, a swindler.

Yet, as the patients inexplicably succumb to apparent possession, the true nature of their afflictions remains shrouded in mystery.

Chapman’s inspiration for the series stemmed from an ancient and enigmatic text:

“The Homeopathic Principle Applied to Insanity: A Proposal to Treat Lunacy by Spiritualism,” authored by Dr. James John Garth Wilkinson in 1857. Fuelled by a deep-seated fascination with the spiritual realm as a devotee of the Fox Sisters, Chapman was driven by an unwavering conviction that this historical gem was destined to be transformed into a compelling narrative.

Prepare to embark on this chilling odyssey as Séance in the Asylum #1 is summoned to your favorite comic shop on July 24, 2024.
