Mortal Kombat 1: A New Era Begins and Aims to be a Flawless Victory this September
NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive have released the first look at Mortal Kombat 1. After a slate of teases, the beloved fighting franchise has revealed what players can expect when they enter their new era this September. Based on the trailer released, they are looking for the new era ushered in will be a flawless victory.
The new title will follow up on the events that unfolded in Mortal Kombat 11 and the expansion ‘Aftermath‘. The trailer showed us the power that Liu Kang wields now that he is a fire god in the reset timeline and as he brought about a peaceful era, nothing lasts forever and now danger has emerged once again which brings us to the cinematic trailer that unleashes a brutal and bloody display of action which we have become accustomed to and revel in as we see glimpses of some of the characters that we can now confirm will be on the roster when the game arrives in a few months.
MK1 will feature a campaign packed with a cinematic story that comes with a brand-new feature called ‘Kameo Fighter’ which will feature a unique roster of fighters that can partner with you and assist you during your matches.

Johnny Cage
Shang Tsung – available as a preorder bonus
Ed Boon, head of NetherRealm Studio shares that this marks a new beginning for the long-standing franchise, saying:
“Mortal Kombat 1 marks a new beginning for the franchise and we couldn’t be more excited to share this original storyline and fresh take on classic characters with our fans. We’re also introducing our Kameo Fighter system which brings a unique roster of partner characters into the mix, and we are looking forward to showing this feature as well as more new elements of the game very soon.”
Mortal Kombat 1 will launch on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch on September 19, 2023. The game does have an early beta planned in August that will be accessible to players who preorder the game and those who purchase an edition of the game above the standard edition will also receive early access to MK1 on September 14th.
