Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Digital Event Reveals New Monsters and More Freedom in Combat
Capcom revealed additional gameplay during a digital event today for Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. With the upcoming expansion just over a month from release, and still so much to learn about the upcoming expansion, the digital event pulled the veil on more of what players can expect in the coming weeks when Sunbreak releases. Players will be traveling from Kamura Village to the new base of operations called Elgado Outpost and with it will come new monsters and more freedom in combat for hunters.

The event kicked things off with a new story trailer that featured a monster called Malzeno. This monster along with tiny monsters at its side is draining the life from the environment and capturing other creatures. Malzeno has been devastating the kingdom and the new character being introduced in Sunbreak, Fiorayne for some time. Players can count on Malzeno to continue to cause problems throughout the expansion. With the elder dragon’s ability to drain the life essence from players, if he absorbs enough, he will enter a new and terrifying form.
Other monsters announced for Sunbreak include a Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate flagship monster, Seregios whose bladed legs are sure to wreak havoc on unsuspecting hunters. There will also be subspecies of current Monster Hunter Rise monsters arriving with the expansion including the Aurora Somnacanth and Magma Alumudron. Both of the monsters will bring some fire and ice to the expansion with a fun variation to their current existing species in the game.
Hunters will be getting some new features that will even the odds as their arsenal gets an upgrade including a new ability, the Switch Skill Swap will let players change between two different loadouts of Switch Skills. This means players will have up to four customizable Silkbind moves that will allow them to put together a string of combinations in new creative ways. While swapping skills, players will have a new Swap Evade that can make sure they are not left vulnerable during the Switch Skill Swap.
Hunters will also have Follower Quests which will allow players to bring an NPC with them on single-player hunts and your favorite characters from both Monster Hunter Rise and Sunbreak will have their own weapons and specializations with the developers noting that they will provide sufficient help during these adventures. Some of the followers that can join you on your quests include Fiorayne, Luchika, Jae, Admiral Galleus, and Master Arlow. From Kamura Village, the twins Hinoa and Minoto.
Lastly, the presentation ended with the announcement of a new Nintendo Switch Pro Controller that will have Malzeno etched on the face of the controller. Any players that have a save file from Monster Hunter Stories 2 will be granted a Palico layered armor set. Free content will also be rolled out after Sunbreak that could include new monsters and armor to become available.
