Minions: The Rise of Gru Trailer Reveals Our Favorite Villain’s Origin Story
Illumination has revealed a trailer for Minions: The Rise of Gru. The new film is set to bring a new entry in the Despicable Me franchise and will follow Gru before becoming a renowned villain and will feature how his faithful and clumsy minions helped him become the evil mastermind we met before eventually becoming a hero.

The trailer adds to the short teaser that was released prior as we are sent back to the 70s and Gru was nothing more than an aspiring villain. The film will show the obstacles Gru faced as he attempts to prove he is worthy of being called a villain. The film will also touch on how Gru learned to use the Minions to carry out his evil plans.
Steve Carell returns to voice Gru, with Pierre Coffin returning to voice Kevin, Start, Bob, Otto, and the other minions. Dr. Nefario also returns with Russell Brand reprising his role. The film will also bring the voice talents of Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, RZA, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, and Alan Arkin.

Kyle Balda returns to helm Minions: The Rise of Gru. Brad Ableson and Jonathan del Val join Balda as co-directors. The film is written by Brian Lynch and Matthew Fogel. Chris Meledandri serves as producer alongside Janet Healy and Chris Renaud. The Rise of Gru soundtrack will be produced by Jack Antonoff.
Minions: The Rise of Gru arrives in theaters on July 1st, 2022. Check out the new trailer below:
