Mad Heidi: Modern Grindhouse Film Making U.S. Premiere in June
Mad Heidi, the film from Fathom Events, Raven Banner Releasing, and Swissploitation Films is set to make its U.S. premiere in June. The modern grindhouse film stars Alice Lucy, Casper Van Dien, David Schofield, Kel Matsena, Almar G. Sato, Pascal Ulli, Max Rudlinger, Kaspar Weiss, and Katja Kolm.
The film was helmed by Johannes Hartmann and Sandro Klopfstein from a screenplay written by Hartmann, Klopfstein, Gregory D. Widmer, and Trent Haaga.
With a tale spun in the grand scope in the vein of Joan of Arc and William Wallace, Mad Heidi sees follows Heidi who lives a simple life in the Swiss Alps alongside her grandfather. In a world under the thumb of a tyrant, a run-in with this tyrant’s henchmen kicks off an epic journey that sees Heidi become a warrior and embark on an adventure that will look to lift the cheese tyrant’s grasp from her country and her people.
The official synopsis reads:
In a dystopian Switzerland that has fallen under the fascist rule of an evil cheese tyrant (Van Dien), Heidi (Lucy) lives a pure and simple life in the Swiss Alps. Grandfather Alpöhi (Schofield) does his best to protect Heidi, but her desire for freedom soon lands her in trouble with the dictator’s henchmen.
When pushed too far the innocent Heidi transforms into a kick-ass warrior who sets out to liberate her country from the heinous cheese fascists. Mad Heidi is an action-adventure exploitation extravaganza based on the popular children’s book character Heidi and the world’s first Swissploitation film.
The film has been celebrated for its creativity and action-packed adventure that will bring gore and glory to fans in the U.S. when it releases nationwide. Having reached many accolades already, the film took an alternate approach as it looked to find life on the big screen by crowdfunding the film to ensure the vision of the film was preserved.
They also ensured that the filmmakers and crew had the tools to bring the vision to life by use of practical effects and gore which honors the art of grindhouse films. The film now joins a theater release through Fathom Events which brought us a theater release of the celebrated indie horror film Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.
Adding further to that, there is a scene in the film that reportedly features a zombie scene which is said to be an homage to George A. Romero‘s Day of the Dead which just oozes passion and this is the type of creativity that makes it easy to fall in love with.

The film has reportedly already had a sequel announced with the reported title of Heidi & Klara. Before you can focus on a sequel, you will have to check out Mad Heidi when it releases in theaters on June 21, 2023.
