Lisa Frankenstein Casts Carla Gugino, Liza Soberano, and Joe Chrest
Focus Features‘ upcoming film Lisa Frankenstein recently began filming and the cast of the reimagining of Mary Shelley‘s Frankenstein has cast Carla Gugino, Liza Soberano, and Joe Chrest. The film stars Kathryn Newton and will also be Zelda Williams‘ directorial debut. The modern retelling of the classic tale will be set in 1989 and will tell the story of a high schooler who accidentally re-animates a corpse during a lightning storm.
Further plot details read:
“[An] unpopular high schooler accidentally re-animates a handsome Victorian corpse during a lightning storm and starts to rebuild him into the man of her dreams using the broken tanning bed in her garage.”
The film is written by Diablo Cody who also wrote the cult hit Jennifer‘s Body which should bode well for the upcoming film. Starring alongside Newton, Gugino, Soberano, and Chrest will be Cole Sprouse, Henry Eikenberry, and Joshua Montes. The film is produced by Mason Novick with Jeffrey Lampert and Michelle Momplaisir executive producing.
Lisa Frankenstein does not currently have a release date but with production just beginning, it’s reasonable to expect to see the film released in 2023. Check out the photos from Newton on day 1 of shooting the film:
