Lisa Frankenstein: Zelda Williams’ Directorial Debut Begins Filming
The classic movie monster franchise has seen its fair share of adaptations and reimaginings over the years. Mary Shelley‘s Frankenstein is set to see itself reimagined in a new and intriguing tale titled Lisa Frankenstein. The film comes from Focus Features and is set to star Kathryn Newton. The modern retelling of the classic tale will be set in 1989 and will tell the story of a high schooler who accidentally re-animates a corpse during a lightning storm.
Further plot details read:
“[An] unpopular high schooler accidentally re-animates a handsome Victorian corpse during a lightning storm and starts to rebuild him into the man of her dreams using the broken tanning bed in her garage.”
The film is written by Diablo Cody who also wrote the cult hit Jennifer‘s Body which should bode well for the upcoming film. The film also marks Zelda Williams‘ directorial debut. Starring alongside Newton will be Cole Sprouse and Joshua Montes.
The film is sure to either take a horror-comedy approach or with Cody involved, a gothic tale with the embellishments that were brought to Jennifer’s Body would be a unique and twisted film that we would certainly welcome with open arms.
Lisa Frankenstein does not currently have a release date but with production just beginning, it’s reasonable to expect to see the film released in 2023. Check out the photos from Newton on day 1 of shooting the film:
