Lightning and Tornadoes Join FORTNITE Chapter 3 Season 1 With New Update
Epic Games has released a new update for Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 and with it comes some heavy weather that includes tornadoes and lightning for players to avoid or make use of in the battle royale game. With the new additions of tornadoes, players can use these weather events to get around the map more quickly, so look up to the sky and if you see a swirl forming, you can either run or embrace it.
The press release about the v19.01 update reads:
“If you see a tornado start to form, that’s no signal to flee, instead, run into it as a swirling escape strategy. You’ll spin round and round ‘til you choose to glide to safety – or if you stay spinning long enough – ‘til the twister spits you out. Don’t worry: you won’t take fall damage if you get hurled.”
Now, if you see lightning forming, it isn’t the god of thunder, instead, it’s the lightning joining the battle royale. Epic Games said in the press release:
“If you see a dark cloud start to form, that’s not necessarily a signal to flee either, sure, the lightning from it deals a small amount of damage (and sets the surrounding area on fire), but the power of its shock gives players a temporary speed boost.”
Keep in mind that lightning will not strike you twice, so if you happen to look for lightning by jumping into a body of water or heading to the highest points of land, then keep in mind that a cooldown will be in effect when you get struck once.
Epic Games is also bringing a gun out of the vault and brings back the flare gun. The press release reads:
“Don’t leave it up to just lightning to start fires, with this hotfix, the Flare Gun has been unvaulted. So now in addition to Firefly Jars, you can spark Flare Guns to make use of spreading flames. Find Flare Guns in chests, on the ground, and from Supply Drops.”
Finally, Epic Games says Fortnite is now in “Tornado Week.” During this event, which runs until January 17, there’s a higher percent chance you’ll encounter tornadoes on the island for their debut in the game.
