Lady Gaga in Talks to Join Joker 2, Film Will Be A Musical Sequel
The recent confirmation of the upcoming Joker 2 film, titled Joker: Folie à Deux, has already begun to make headlines. Just last week, director Todd Phillips revealed the title with an image of the script and Joaquin Phoenix himself holding the sequel’s script in hand. Speculations revolving around the title were that we would see Harley Quinn emerge in the sequel and Lady Gaga is now in talks to take on the role of the character in what has now been reported to be a musical sequel.
The Hollywood Reporter’s report noted that Gaga’s possible role is being kept under wraps but that it would in fact be a version of the fan-favorite Harley Quinn. The character is most famously played by Margot Robbie in the DCEU since her introduction in the 2016 film Suicide Squad. The Arkham Asylum psychiatrist attempted to treat the Joker before falling in love with the Clown Prince of Crime, leading to the many stories involving the abusive relationship between the two.
There have been many series on print and on both the big and small screen revolving around the two characters and their troublesome relationship, but Phillips looks to put his mark on the maddening ride of the two characters’ history.
Joker garnered over $1B at the box office after working off a $60M budget and also received 11 Academy Award nominations. Fans were mesmerized by the dark comic book adaptation that focused on the mental health aspects and the neglect given by society to the mentally ill. The sequel’s title follows suit with Folie à Deux applying to a medical term for a mental disorder.
With more information being released for Joker: Folie à Deux, more questions have been raised than answers. With the sequel still not having a release date and more information on the film on the horizon, stay tuned as more information becomes available about the highly-anticipated sequel.
