Sony Gives Kraven the Hunter Film an R-Rating
CinemaCon has brought fans eagerly awaiting news for Sony Pictures‘ Kraven The Hunter some worthy updates as it was revealed that the film will be Sony‘s first R-rated Marvel film as well as the casting of Alessandro Nivola as Rhino which was revealed during the exclusive footage of the film shown at CinemaCon as reported by Variety.
We still don’t know much about the plot of the film but with Kraven having such a pivotal role in the Spider-Man Universe, the intrigue of the possibilities is exponential.
We already saw the cracks between Sony and the MCU begin to show as Eddie Brock/Venom made a short cameo appearance to introduce the symbiote into the MCU and this could lead to a door opening for potential crossovers in the future that will give both franchises opportunities to feature Kraven in key roles that he has played throughout the life of Peter Parker/Spider-Man since being introduced in the 1960s Marvel Comics issue The Amazing Spider-Man #15.
Kraven the Hunter was originally slated for a January 2023 release but was pushed out to a theatrical release on October 6, 2023.

Original story follows:
Kraven the Hunter is set to follow in the footsteps of Venom, Morbius, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage as the next chapter of Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters. J.C. Chandor is set to direct Kraven the Hunter from a script by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk, and the film is already slated for a January 13, 2023 release. Taylor-Johnson has reportedly signed on for multiple films as Kraven.
Kraven the Hunter is a Russian immigrant whose aristocratic family fled to America following the Russian Revolution. With intensive training and the help of a potion that gave him superhuman abilities, including increased strength, speed, reflexes, and enhanced senses, Kraven became a fearsome big-game hunter who tackled the most dangerous game on the planet, preferably with his bare hands. Kraven is also one of Spider-Man’s most famous villains, and, in one of his most memorable comic-book stories, Kraven’s Last Hunt, even defeats Spider-Man by seemingly killing him and burying him. Kraven then assumed Spider-Man’s identity by donning his own Spidey outfit and set out to prove himself superior at his former adversaries’ own game.
As mentioned before, Taylor-Johnson has made his rounds in the comic universe adaptations, having played the role of Kick-Ass and most recently in the MCU as Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Taylor-Johnson will next appear in The King’s Man on December 22, 2021.
Sony Pictures has dates for its next two Marvel Sonyverse films with Venom: Let There Be Carnage hitting theaters on September 24, 2021, followed by Morbius on January 28, 2022.
