Kate Micucci to Star in and Produce Animated Series Toy, Based On Keenspot Comic

Kate Micucci, known for her roles in Big Bang Theory and Garfunkel and Oates, is set to produce and star in an upcoming animated series based on the Keenspot comic book Toy. This new venture will also feature Micucci creating music for the series, having already recorded a first pass of the theme song.

Tobi Wilson, senior writer for Cartoon Network‘s The Amazing World of Gumball, has been appointed as the showrunner and co-producer. The series is also backed by producers including Keenspot’s Chris Crosby, Bobby Crosby, and David Campiti of Glass House Studios, which will handle the animation production.

Toy, created by Brett Murphy and Wilson Gandolpho, made its debut in March 2023. The story revolves around a floppy-eared inventor who is also a toy, alongside his two friends: an ever-hungry crocodile and a skillful human girl.

Together, they defend the small town of Rockledge against the evil cat CEO Lily Buttercup, who is determined to outdo Toy by any means necessary, even going as far as building a huge mech suit to destroy his hometown.

Micucci has an extensive acting background, with roles in notable TV shows such as Four Kings, Till Death, Scrubs, Raising Hope, Steven Universe, How I Met Your Mother, Supergirl, and Malcolm in the Middle. She’s also appeared in films such as Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Clerks III, Flora & Ulysses, among others. She is also recognized as the voice of Daisy on PBS‘s Nature Cat.

“We are so honored that her unique and hilarious voice is teaming up with brilliant showrunner Tobi Wilson to bring this project into animated reality,” expressed Chris Crosby.

After overcoming cancer, Micucci is now jumping back into projects that will showcase her exceptional comedic talents.

More details about Toy, including its release date, are expected to be unveiled in the future. Stay tuned for further updates.
