David Booher and Drew Zucker Talk Canto’s New Adventure at Dark Horse Comics
David M. Booher is the very talented Eisner and GLAAD Media Award-nominated writer behind comics like D&D Saturday Morning Adventures, Firefly, Killer Queens, and many more including some TV and movies currently in the works.
He teamed with the incredible artist Drew Zucker, known for his series The House, and together this dynamic duo brought to life the fantastic series Canto, which after several years at IDW will now be making its home at Dark Horse Comics.

I got the chance to sit down with David and Drew and talk about the ingredients you need to put together what they consider the perfect sandwich, and what it was that led David to pursue a career as a writer after spending several years as a lawyer. Drew told us that being an artist was in his blood and his path to becoming an artist, where they get their ideas from, and tons more!
We also chat about the drawing in a desk that ultimately became the origin of Canto, the story so far, the shift from IDW over to Dark Horse Comics, what we can see from them in the future including more Canto books, a possible Canto movie adaptation, a story in the upcoming Legendary Comics MonsterVerse series, and any advice they may have for up-and-coming creatives!

Legendary Comics recently unveiled two additions to the Monsterverse: Godzilla x Kong: The Hunted and Monsterverse Declassified. Monsterverse Declassified stands out as the inaugural anthology series set within the official Monsterverse, offering fans a deeper dive into the captivating universe. Although the book is currently in development, it is set to feature origin stories of Titans including Doug, Behemoth, and Tiamat, alongside another mysterious Titan yet to be revealed.
Taking readers on a journey through the annals of Monarch histories and secrets is the character Bernie Hayes, portrayed by actor Brian Tyree Henry in the films. Through his narrative, audiences will uncover the truths behind Legendary’s most iconic monsters. Scheduled to release after Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and will serve as a prequel to the film.
Monsterverse Declassified boasts a diverse and expansive creative team in which Booher and Zucker find themselves. Alongside Booher and Zucker is the impressive lineup of, Umar Ditta, Rosie Knight, and Dan Park, as well as artists Francesco Biagini, David Ferracci, Oliver Ono, and Marco Roblin.

David and Drew’s comic series Canto is an incredible story of love, friendship, and most importantly, hope. Enslaved for generations, Canto’s people once had hearts. Now they have clocks. They are forbidden to love, yet Canto loves a little tin girl. When slavers damage her clock beyond repair, Canto embarks on an incredible journey through his strange and fantastic world to bring back her heart.
Canto will be re-released this summer with all new hardcovers from Dark Horse Comics.
