House of the Dragon Records Largest Premiere in HBO History
HBO has revealed that the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon recorded the largest premiere in history for the network. The series focuses on the fall of House Targaryen during one of the greatest civil wars in Westeros history premiered this last Sunday with an episode that was very reminiscent to the beauty of the landscapes and the brutality we have come to expect from Game of Thrones. Close to 10M viewers tuned in for the premiere across HBO and HBO Max.
Casey Bloys, HBO’s chief content officer shared their feelings in regards to the millions of fans that tuned in, saying:
“It was wonderful to see millions of Game of Thrones fans return with us to Westeros last night. House of the Dragon features an incredibly talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into the production, and we’re ecstatic with viewers’ positive response. We look forward to sharing with audiences what else George, Ryan, and Miguel have in store for them this season.”
HBO‘s official description of the series reads:
“The reign of House Targaryen begins: House of the Dragon, the prequel to Game of Thrones, is here. Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” the series, which is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen.”
The series stars Milly Alcock, Emma D’arcy, Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans, Olivia Cooke. Paddy Considine, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Emily Carey, Harry Collett, Ryan Corr, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Graham McTavish, Ewan Mitchell, Theo Nate, Matthew Needham, Bill Paterson, Phia Saban, Gavin Spokes, Savannah Steyn, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, and Sonoya Mizuno.
The series is based on Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin‘s novel Fire & Blood. The series will work its way up to the Targaryen civil war, Dance of Dragons. Fans of Game of Thrones will know how heavily influenced by the series, and we will, of course, see plenty of dragons and tension within the House Targaryen that should make for an intriguing series to check out.

House of the Dragon airs on HBO and is also available on HBO Max.
