Mad Cave Studios Announces Horror Graphic Novel “Hound” Just in Time for Halloween
Mad Cave Studios is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of Hound, a captivating historical fiction horror graphic novel. The story, co-written by Sam Romesburg (known for Children of the Grave and Rock & Roll Hell) and Sam Freeman (known for Basic Instinct), features artwork by Rodrigo Vázquez (known for Swip Tip Kapiti Kaluse).
Set against the backdrop of World War I, Hound follows the journey of a young soldier assigned to one of the most dangerous areas on the Western Front. Surprisingly, he discovers that the greatest threat to his life is not the enemy but a cult formed by his own comrades.

The narrative unfolds through the meticulously detailed journal entries of Private Barrow, a freshly drafted soldier in Britain’s royal army during the height of the Great War. Barrow’s gripping account takes us to the heart of his service in the “gas quarter,” a treacherous patch of land notorious for relentless mustard gas attacks.
The story commences with Barrow’s introduction to the unit occupying the quarter, referred to as “The Hounds” due to the distinctive long-snouted gas masks they wear. The sight of these masks deeply unsettles Barrow, plunging him into a nightmarish reality that only warfare’s savage horrors can create.

Sam Romesburg expresses his enthusiasm for the project, saying:
“For Sam, Rodrigo, and myself, ‘HOUND’ is the culmination of over a year’s worth of planning, historical research, and hard work. We are beyond thrilled to witness its transformation into physical form. We eagerly await readers immersing themselves in the world that Rodrigo has expertly brought to life on the page. We are deeply grateful to be collaborating with the incredible team at Mad Cave.”
Sam Freeman shares his excitement, stating:
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to introduce ‘HOUND’ to the world. I have poured my heart and soul into this book, and I am incredibly proud of the world that Sam, Rodrigo, and I have created. Rodrigo, in particular, is an exceptional talent, and I consider myself fortunate to have our work represented by his artistic prowess.”

Rodrigo Vázquez, the mastermind behind the captivating artwork, adds:
“Creating ‘HOUND’ has been my first step into the realm of American comics, and I couldn’t be more excited. I am immensely grateful to the entire Mad Cave Studios team and, especially, to the Sams for their unwavering support, their outstanding collaboration, and their trust in me.”
Hound will make its way to your favorite local comic shop on February 2024 and is available for preorder on the Mad Cave Studios official website now.
