Henry Cavill in Talks Star in Warhammer 40,000 Series at Amazon
Henry Cavill has been in the headlines these past few days after the gut-wrenching news yesterday that he would not be reprising his role as Superman in James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s DC Universe. A bit before that, Netflix announced that Cavill would be stepping back from his role as Geralt in The Witcher. Fans have been in an uproar but there seems to be some good news at last as Cavill is set to star and executive produce Amazon‘s Warhammer 40,000 series.
Amazon is currently in final talks to obtain the rights to the game from Games Workshop in what has been months of negotiations and fending off rival companies according to THR’s report. The series is yet to find its showrunner and writers but Vertigo Entertainment is said to be attached to executive produce.
To those unfamiliar with Warhammer, the miniature game is in the same vein as Dungeons & Dragons as the tabletop game features a combination of dice and miniature figures. Warhammer’s sensation falls in the intricate figures that many fans of the series have spent countless hours detailing to bring into the battlefields they have constructed. Warhammer finds itself as one of the most popular tabletop games in the world and presents a setting set 40,000 years into the future as human civilization’s progress has halted and finds itself in an endless war again aliens and magic beings along with gods and demons fitting into a theological system.
Cavill has voiced his love for Warhammer time and time again and would be a fitting role for him but it still lies in Amazon‘s hands to close this deal for what would be an ambitious and rewarding series for both the streamer and fans.
