Heartpiercer: Dark Horse Comics Announces New Dark Fantasy Tale
Dark Horse Comics has recently announced an upcoming dark fantasy tale titled Heartpiercer, created by writer Rich Douek, known for works such as Drive Like Hell and Gutter Magic. Collaborating with artists Gavin Smith (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dead Legends) and Nicholas Burgdorf (Of Bitter Souls), as well as letterer Justin Birch (Dead Mall, Sea of Sorrows), the creative team invites readers to a dark and captivating world.
The story follows Atala, who believed she was safeguarding the world from monstrous threats but ultimately brought about doom by inadvertently slaying the last unicorn. Betrayed and left for dead, Atala awakens in a world consumed by nightmares, driven by a desire for retribution and redemption as she endeavors to rescue the world from impending darkness.
Writer Rich Douek expresses his enthusiasm for the project, citing fantasy as the genre that first captured his heart as a reader. He reflects on Heartpiercer as a return to his roots as a writer, describing it as an epic, dark fantasy narrative centered around themes of love, vengeance, and reconciliation with one’s past.
