Sony Santa Monica shared the news on the platforms we can expect the sequel to the PS4 God of War, and also shifted the expected release date window from 2021 to 2022.
When the sequel was announced, we were all eager to see what Ragnarok would be bringing to us after a hit release of PlayStation 4’s God of War. The initial window was meant for a release this year, but with the pandemic, it has become a state of normalcy to see titles delayed in all forms of entertainment.
The news initially was released in a PlayStation Blog post, but Santa Monica Studios later released a post on Twitter confirming that the God of War sequel will be dropping sometime next year.
“Since the release of the next God of War teaser last year, we’ve been humbled by the amount of love our community has shown us,” reads the above tweet. “We’re incredibly grateful to see so many people excited to experience the next chapter of Kratos and Atreus’ journey.”
It continued, saying, “We remain focused on delivering a top-quality game while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our team, creative partners, and families. With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to shift our release window to 2022.”
Delays are never what a fan wants to see, but I can appreciate a studio being up front with it’s fan base and taking the extra time to give us a game that they think will be worthy and top quality.
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Sid Shuman confirmed that God of War is among the titles that will be releasing on both PS5 and PS4 systems. The cross-generational confirmation bodes well as it gives many gamers who still haven’t been able to get their hands on a PS5 the opportunity to continue playing the newly released titles.
