Artillery Network has announced a brand-new graphic novel titled Pimp Killer. The upcoming series will see investigator LA Jones going head-to-head with Luciano “Lucky” Strykes after the murder of a woman in Reno makes him her number-one suspect. The graphic novel is penned by Ghezal Omar with art by Ayhan Hayrula, and cover art by Phillip Ginn. We caught up with Omar to ask a few questions about Pimp Killer as well as their creative influences that served as inspiration for crafting the world of the graphic novel.

Geek Network: Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. Before we jump into Pimp Killer. Could you tell us a bit about your background as a writer?

Absolutely! In 2021, I published my first graphic novel titled “.357 Magnum Opus.” My background includes screenwriting, and initially, the story was conceived as a screenplay. However, considering the characters, dialogue, and visuals, I believed that the comic format would be a perfect fit.

GN: Pimp Killer looks to be an emotionally charged graphic novel. What would be your elevator pitch to those who may have not heard of PK yet or may be on the fence about it?

LA Jones has one job and one job only: hunt down pimps. In this story she unleashes her own brand of justice by going after Lucky Strykes, a low life pimp who has murdered a young woman and is hiding out in Hollywood.

GN: Crowdfunding is all the craze and a great way for indie titles to make it out to the comic book community. For yourself, you when with a self-published title. Can you share how you decided on self-publishing and maybe share some insight on the benefits of self-publishing?

Self-publishing has granted me complete creative control over my work. As a creator, I firmly believe in the importance of having artistic and financial freedom when telling stories. Through self-publishing, I have been fortunate to explore and experiment with the medium in ways that may not have been possible with traditional publishing. This has allowed me to push the boundaries of my craft and create work that truly reflects my vision.

GN: Pimp Killer is driven by a strong female lead in this violent story. What influences did you draw from for the graphic novel and LA Jones specifically?

As a big fan of Tarantino, I found myself particularly drawn to the character of Jackie Brown. This inspired me to create my own badass female character who takes justice into her own hands when the police fail to do their job. My inspiration for this character actually came from a chance encounter with an Uber driver in Las Vegas. I wanted to create a female heroine driven by her strong principles and determination to fight for those who have no one to protect them.

GN: What can comic fans expect to see from you next or in the future? Any upcoming projects you can share?

I am currently collaborating with writer and creator Kayden Phoenix on a project called “Pagan Valley.” The story revolves around a reckless night in Hollywood, where a young woman resorts to robbing a strip club to repay a debt, and the ensuing chaos that follows. It’ll be a very fun read and will be released Winter 2023. In addition, I’m working on the prequel to .357 Magnum Opus and that should be ready in 2024.

GN: For those who missed their chance to grab a copy of Pimp Killer at C2E2, where can they buy a copy?

Pimp Killer is available on my website  www.pimpkiller.com and of course on Amazon.
