Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows Team Up for Babs

Renowned writer Garth Ennis, known for his work on Hitman, The Punisher, Sara, and Marjorie Finnegan, Temporal Criminal, has joined forces with acclaimed artist Jacen Burrows to bring Babs to life. This six-part mini-series is set to debut from AHOY Comics.

In this sharp satire of sword & sorcery, Ennis introduces Babs, a skilled barbarian thief with a less-than-ideal enchanted sword named Barry. Together, Babs and Barry navigate a world filled with wizards, dragons, trolls, demons, and magic treasures, all in pursuit of striking it rich.

However, their plans are disrupted by Tiberius Toledo and his band of knights, leading Babs into an epic battle against a nefarious plot.

The six-issue series will feature Babs facing off against Tiberius Toledo and his group of white knights. While trying to execute her latest plan to become wealthy, the barbarian heroine discovers Toledo’s scheme to manipulate the primal desires of the townspeople.

Ennis shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating:

“Writing BABS was an absolute hoot. The character is one of my favorite types—good at the job but crap at life, with a lousy attitude to boot—and the world of sword & sorcery provides endless opportunities for deeply disrespectful humor.”

Accompanying Ennis’s writing, artist Jacen Burrows expressed his excitement, commenting:

“I’ve always wanted to work on a fantasy story. I’m having such a great time getting to design the world and characters, and I can’t wait to take readers on this wild ride.”

AHOY Comics Editor-in-Chief Tom Peyer added:

“Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows master the genre of orcs, dragons, and living swords, adding an ill-gotten bounty of humor and heart.”

Ennis has long been known for his dark parodies of the comic book clichés with his work on The Boys and Preacher. Both comic book series made their way to the small screen with TV series adaptations. The Boys still finds itself atop the charts on Prime Video and has expanded the universe with spinoff series such as Gen V and the upcoming spinoff The Boys: Mexico.

BABS #1, with variant covers provided by best-selling artists Chris Burnham and Amanda Conner, is scheduled to arrive at your favorite local comic shops on July 17, 2024.
