A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight Game Of Thrones Prequel Series is Headed to HBO
Warner Bros. Discovery has announced yet another venture into George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe as they will be developing a new prequel series titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. During the event, a number of announcements that included the rebranding of HBO Max into the new combined streaming platform Max brought also the news of the expansion of Game of Thrones.
This series will have someone who knows the universe best as Martin will be attached to the series as writer and executive producer alongside Ira Parker who will also write and executive produce the series. Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis will serve as executive producers. The series is based on the Dunk and Egg books by Martin, which tell the tale of Ser Duncan the Tall and a young Aegon V Targaryen.
Set close to a century before the flagship series, we will see more of Westeros with the Targaryen reigning supreme. Martin’s attachment to the series could lead to another faithful and bloody encounter as the pair wanders the seven kingdoms who sit below the Targaryens and their dragons as they occupy the Iron Throne.
The official logline for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight reads:
“A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
With the success of House of the Dragon, Warner Bros. Discovery has put full faith into the IP but has been careful as to what they adapt and their steps moving forward. We have the sequel series following Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow after the events of Game of Thrones. We also have the newly announced feature film that will lead into a series following Aegon Targaryens’ conquering of the six of seven kingdoms in Westeros.
