G4 TV Being Shut Down Less than One Year After its Revival
G4 TV‘s revival has unfortunately come to an end less than a year since the announcement that the network had relaunched. Comcast released a letter to employees announcing that the former home of Xplay and Attack of the Show! would be discontinued immediately.
Deadline reported that Comcast CEO Dave Scott had penned the letter making the announcement in which he stated:
“Team: As you know, G4 was re-introduced last year to tap into the popularity of gaming,” Scott wrote. “We invested to create the new G4 as an online and TV destination for fans to be entertained, be inspired, and connect with gaming content.
Over the past several months, we worked hard to generate that interest in G4, but viewership is low and the network has not achieved sustainable financial results. This is certainly not what we hoped for, and, as a result, we have made the very difficult decision to discontinue G4’s operations, effective immediately. I know this is disappointing news, and I’m disappointed, too. I want to thank you and everyone on the G4 team for the hard work and commitment to the network.
Our human resources team is reaching out to you to provide you with support, discuss other opportunities that may be available, and answer any questions you may have.”
Many were surprised to see the network be shut down after only relaunching on November 16, 2021, but the sadder note would be that many of those working with G4 was also hit with the news from outside sources as Emily Rose seems to have found out through the Deadline article with host Jirard the Completionist sharing a tweet stating he found out about the shutdown from Wario64.
We wish all those involved with the network the best in their future endeavors and expect all these talented individuals to find a new home where they can continue to do what they love.
