Fruits Basket: Prelude Trailer Reveals the Final Chapter of Tohru’s Story
Crunchyroll has announced that they will be bringing Fruits Basket: Prelude to the big screen in select theaters in the United States and Canada. This will be the first time the film is premiered outside of Japan and should be an exciting moment for fans of the romance series Fruits Basket as the film is set to conclude Tohru Honda’s story.
The film’s synopsis reads:
“The delinquent Kyoko meets an eccentric intern teacher, Katsuya Honda. The relationship that began by serendipity connects the fate of the two inseparably, but the reality that awaits them is far from being blessed by anyone. Nevertheless, the most important person in the world for Kyoko and Katsuya, Tohru Honda, is born.
They hope to spend a happy time together blissfully and lovingly. But things don’t turn out that way… This is the story of Tohru’s parents, Kyoko and Katsuya, of a fleeting yet irreplaceable time.”
The Fruits Basket series is based on the award-winning manga series by Natsuki Takaya that ran from 1998 to 2006 and led to the 2019 anime adaptation. In 2001, there was another adaptation that ran a shorter 26-episode series and was directed by Akitaro Daichi, and the series was rebooted in 2019 with a three-season adaptation directed by Yoshihide Ibata.
The film’s voice cast includes Manaka Iwami/Laura Bailey, Miyuki Sawashiro/Lydia Mackay, Yoshimasa Hosoya/J. Michael Tatum, and Yūma Uchida/Jerry Jewell. The script was written by Taku Kishimoto with character designs by Masaru Shindo. Tamako Kamiyama served as art director with music composed by Masaru Yokoyama.
