First Lord of the Rings The Rings of Power Photos Tease the Epic Prequel
Prime Video has released the first look at the characters of the upcoming Lord of the Rings The Rings of Power series that will take fans back to Middle-Earth for the Second Age and another visit into the J.R.R. Tolkien‘s works.
After debuting a series of character posters, Prime Video partnered with Vanity Fair to give us a more detailed look at the characters and series. The series which as mentioned is set in the Second Age will be set thousands of years before we followed the journey of Bilbo coming across Gollum and the One Ring, and the event that followed in which Frodo journeys to the fires of Mordor to destroy that One Ring and saves Middle Earth from the grasp of Sauron. The series will instead focus on the very Rings of Power being forged, but we will still see some familiar faces.
The images show a familiar face, although younger in Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and we see her in a different light as we did when the Fellowship crossed her path in the original trilogy that saw Cate Blancett take on the role. She is thousands of years younger and a warrior in the middle of all the action this time around. We also see an equally younger Elrond (Robert Amayo), who although we saw a glimpse of his warrior roots in the trilogy, will likely be explored even further in the prequel series.

Along with the returning characters, we do have some new faces including Ismael Cruz Córdova who will portray Arondir, a character created exclusively for the new series, and Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniad).

From what is shown, it looks like the series will be giving fans a better look at the elven kingdom Lindon, the village of Tirharad, and the dwarf territory of Khazad-dûm, which most fans will remember as the place we see Gandalf (Ian McKellen) sacrifice himself during his fight with a Balrog.
According to Vanity Fair, the series takes place after the evil god Morgoth was defeated in a war that nearly decimated the entire land. Morgoth’s general and apprentice, Sauron, vanished after the war. The series will start as the elf leader Galadriel hunts down the remaining Morgoth’s minion who still hide in the shadows.
The Rings of Power will also adapt the story of a sailor named Isildur (Maxim Baldry), who most of us know as the prince that cut Sauron’s finger during Middle-Earth’s last stand against Sauron and then failed to destroy the One Ring. The series will also explore the life of Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards), the elven smith who forges the Rings of Power. Elrond (Aramayo) is also part of the narrative in the series, but long before becoming the Lord of Rivendell we see in the films.
We also get a look at the prince and princess dwarves Disa (Sophia Nomvete) and Durin (Owain Arthur). With the milestone premiere season and the most expensive TV series season ever produced, the first-look photos show the expansive world that showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are bringing fans with the help of director J.A. Bayona.

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere its first trailer during this Sunday’s Super Bowl and the series is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on September 2nd, 2022. Check out the other first-look photos below:
