Emi Meyer Takes Us To The Land of the Rising Sun and Talks Working on Blue Eye Samurai

For Whom the Bell Tolls: Enter Blue Samurai

Geek Network traveled to “The Land of the Rising Sun” to talk with international multi-talented Emi Meyer who has been making waves with her Japanese cover of “For Whom the Bell Tolls” by metal legends “Metallica.” The conversation delved deep into her music career, her time in the States, and finally how she got the gig for Netflix to provide this cover for the hit anime show “Blue Eye Samurai.”

Emi Meyer started on classical piano at the age of 6, as she got older she wanted to expand her horizons, so went out and played jazz for a while, and she found much success in that scene. She has had multiple singles, videos on YouTube, and a few commercial spots internationally with her music. She now adds a cover to one of Metallica’s biggest hits for the Netflix anime series that took the fandom by storm.

GN: What was the process behind the cover of “For Whom the Bell Tolls?”

Emi Meyer: I was contacted by my agent saying that Netflix needed a cover for this specific song, I of course had some pushback because it is not my typical genre, but I still auditioned and got the gig; While performing this song/cover it really helped me let go, and get rid of some pent-up rage, so it was very therapeutic. for me.

Emi Meyer plans on doing composition or more covers for future shows so keep an eye out for her. She has not been to the States since the pandemic, but when she does hit the States, she loves playing in New York, L.A., and Seattle where she grew up.

Emi does like interacting with her fans, so you can follow her online to stay up to date with her and her work. Lastly, she dropped her newest single, and music video “Golden Child” on Youtube and Spotify.

Blue Eye Samurai became a sensation and delivered an action-packed series with impressive animation and delved into a plot and protagonist that won all of us over. With a second season on the horizon, we hope to not only see Mizu once again but hope Emi returns with another epic cover.
