Yu Yu Hakusho Live-Action Adaptation Gets New Action-Packed Trailer
Netflix has released an action-packed new trailer in anticipation of next week’s debut of Yu Yu Hakusho, their live-action adaptation of the best-selling manga. The trailer gives fans a sneak peek at the impressive special effects being used to bring the pages of the hit manga to life.
Netflix utilized performance capture technology and 170 cameras to film the actors simultaneously in 360 degrees, integrating special effects and CG character assets into the live-action world. This adaptation will mark the first live-action version of Yu Yu Hakusho.

In the original manga series written by Yoshihiro Togashi, the story revolves around a troubled teen named Yusuke Urameshi who is killed by a car while trying to save a child. However, Yusuke’s death is shortlived as he passes a series of tests in the afterlife, earning him the title of “Underworld Detective.” He returns to the Human World to solve supernatural mysteries, often involving brawls with other-worldly beings using his martial arts skills.
Check out the official synopsis:
Based on the legendary manga by Yoshihiro Togashi originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump for four years from 1990 and published by Shueisha, the story revolves around Yusuke Urameshi, who spends his days getting into fights and dies in an accident while trying to protect a young child.
As he grapples with the fact that he is looking down on his dead body, a woman named Botan who calls herself a guide to the spirit world relays to him the shocking truth: no one expected a delinquent like Yusuke to die performing an act of goodness, and there was no place for him in either heaven or hell.
Thus, Yusuke is given a chance to be revived, and after passing his trial, he becomes an Underworld Detective. From there, Yusuke becomes entwined in a mystery that envelopes the human, demon and spirit worlds.

The trailer opens with a narration about the connection between the Human World and the Demon World, followed by intense action sequences introducing the series’ cast of characters of the five-episode series directed by Sho Tsukikawa.
Takumi Kitamura takes on the role of Yusuke, alongside co-stars Shuhei Uesugi, Sei Shiraishi, Kenichi Takito, Goro Inagaki, and Go Ayano. The trailer also gives us a special treat highlighting Yusuke’s signature move, the “Spirit Gun,” where he emits a powerful blast of Spirit Energy.

History will be made with the first-ever live-action adaptation of the popular manga and anime series when Yu Yu Hakusho premieres exclusively on Netflix on December 14th, 2023. Check out the new trailer below:
