Eight Billion Genies Adaptation Acquired by Amazon Studios
Amazon Studios has acquired the rights to the limited comic series Eight Billion Genies. The Hollywood Reporter announced that the streamer would be adapting the comic series from writer Charles Soule and artist Ryan Brown. The streamer is looking to adapt the series into a feature for Prime Video.
The comic series’ official description reads:
“If you had one wish…what would you wish for? Now, what if everyone else had one wish too? That’s EIGHT BILLION GENIES, the new eight-issue series from CHARLES SOULE & RYAN BROWNE (CURSE WORDS). At exactly the same moment, everyone on earth gets a genie and one wish. All hell breaks loose, in a very entertaining way…and that’s just the beginning. Buckle in for the wildest ride of the year!”
Amazon Studios is looking past a single feature adaptation and instead plans to use the film as a jumping point for a larger story in what they describe as an “expansive, cross-media universe.” Soule and Brown will serve as executive producers on the film. Soule on board of the project certainly bodes well for the possibilities of expansion as he has made strides in expanding Marvel‘s Star Wars: The High Republic universe since it launched in 2021.
No further details have been released at this time and we will await word on the cast, writer, or directors to be attached to the project. Stay tuned as more information becomes available.
