CREED: Creed III Sequel Spin-off Comic Coming to Boom! Studios
Boom! Studios has announced their collaboration with MGM and Michael B. Jordan‘s banner Outlier Society for a sequel spin-off comic mini-series set in the world of Creed III titled CREED. The four-issue comic series will feature Jordan as creative director of the new story as co-writers LaToya Morgan and Jai Jamison pen the series with art by Wilton Santos, colors by DJ Chavis, and executive producer Elizabeth Raposo. The premiere issue of the mini-series will feature cover art by Mateus Manhanini, Valentine de Landro, Paris Alleyne, and many more.
Boom’s description of the new series reads:
“The CREED comic book series begins ten years after the events of Creed III. Adonis Creed is out of the ring but not out of the game as he trains – along with his manager-wife Bianca – the next champion—his daughter Amara, now an amateur boxer. But with Adonis and Bianca reluctant to pit their daughter against more dangerous opponents, Amara feels like her career is at a standstill, and she’s hungry for more. Amara will have to find another trainer. Someone who’s not afraid of defying Adonis but still knows how to teach her to fight like a Creed. Who’s up for the challenge of training a young boxer to become the next champion fighter?”
Morgan’s extensive library as a writer is tied to some of the most beloved projects in many mediums of entertainment such as Dark Blood, Parenthood, Shameless, The Walking Dead, Into the Badlands, including currently serving as showrunner and executive producer on HBO Max‘s original series Duster which is co-created by J.J. Abrams. Speaking of the opportunity to pen CREED, Morgan shared:
“I couldn’t say no at the opportunity to dive deeper into Adonis’ story–the story of the Creed dynasty. As a super fan of the Rocky and Creed franchises, this is a dream come true! I’m so excited for fellow fans to dive into this comic book goodness.”
Jamison has provided extensive creative prowess in film and television and is currently an executive story editor on Superman & Lois while also lending his hand to DC Comics by penning Earth Prime: Superman & Lois #2 for the publisher. Speaking of their opportunity to join this project, Jamison shared:
“It’s been the opportunity of a lifetime to play in the sandbox with such an iconic franchise filled with incredible and complex characters. The art I’ve seen from Wilton has blown my mind. And to top it all off, I get to collaborate with my longtime friend and mentor, LaToya. I can’t wait for people to see what we got planned
Jordan has taken the helm on not only the latest entry in the film franchise but the universe as a whole it seems. As the torch was passed down from Sylvester Stallone‘s Rocky to Jordan’s Adonis Creed in Creed II. Creed III heavily focused on rounding out Adonis as a character outside of the ring as much as in the ring.
His past leads to troubles both professionally and personally which leads the then-retired Adonis to step back into the ring to give us an iconic final battle as we have come to expect from the franchise. Jordan clearly has a love for other fandoms as he previously stated anime was an inspiration for some of the choreography in the final bout. This is an exciting next step for CREED and we’re here for it.
CREED #1 will be available at your local comic book shop and digitally in June 2023.
