Scott Snyder and Dan Panosian’s Canary Being Published By Dark Horse

Comic book writer Scott Snyder, known for his work on Batman, is venturing back into the world of horror with his latest creator-owned series, Canary. Teaming up with artist Dan Panosian, Snyder brings a genre-bending Old West tale to life.

Set during the final days of the Gold Rush, the story revolves around a mining company in Colorado that uncovers radioactive uranium before a tragic collapse. The incident gives rise to legends of curses and hauntings. As the Frontier closes and the region becomes more civilized, a wave of inexplicable violence breaks out in the Rocky Mountains.

Random killings plague the area as people go mad and commit senseless murders. In response, renowned federal marshal Azrael William Holt and a brilliant young geologist are called in to investigate. What they unearth is beyond their wildest imaginations and more horrifying than they could have ever anticipated.

“Canary blends Gothic Horror and the Western genre into a world never seen before,” Panosian shares. He further explains, “Scott created a unique take on this story, and it demanded an equally unique artistic approach. I wanted the look, feel, and colors to transport readers to a place they haven’t experienced before. By subtly twisting the familiar Western style, we aim to create an underlying unease that shapes this captivating experience. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we have enjoyed creating it.”

Originally released as a Comixology original series, Canary is now being published as a monthly comic by Dark Horse Comics. The story will unfold in a three-part series, with the first issue hitting stores later this year. Fans can look forward to multiple variant covers by Panosian, Emma Rios, and Jill Thompson for the first issue. Additionally, a trade paperback collection is set to be released in June 2024.

Canary #1 will be available at your favorite local comic shop and digitally on November 1, 2023. A trade paperback collecting the series will be available in June 2024.
