Bill Skarsgård Won’t Reprise Pennywise Role in Welcome To Derry
The upcoming HBO Max prequel to Stephen King‘s IT will get a new clown as Bill Skarsgård won’t reprise his Pennywise role in the upcoming prequel series Welcome To Derry. The series explores how the demonic clown winds up in the town of Derry and will now have a new face behind the facepaint as Skarsgård revealed during an interview on Jake’s Takes that he is not attached to the upcoming HBO Max series.
Welcome To Derry will dive deeper into the origins of Stephen King‘s horrifying antagonist as the small town of Derry falls hopeless to the alien known as Pennywise who feeds on the townsfolk every thirty years. Given the timetable and recurring missing/murdered population in Derry, it’s easy to understand why the town feels like it has fallen into an endless curse. We know how this story ends, but now we explore its beginning.
This is what Skarsgård had to say during the interview:
“As of now, I’m not currently involved with it. If someone else gets to do it, my advice would be: Do it your own. Make it your own. Have fun with it. What I found pleasurable about that character is how abstract he was.”
The 2017 film remake from Andy Muschietti gave fans a newfound respect for Skarsgård who took Tim Curry‘s role and gave it a spine-tingling creative take that only he could provide for the character. As Pennywise, Skarsgård played the villainous role who takes on the group of children calling themselves The Losers Club whose rivalry begins with the murder of Georgie causing The Losers Club to take on the task of defeating the monster that killed Georgie in a fight that takes place between Pennywise and The Losers Club as children and then again as adults when Pennywise resurfaces.
No release date or additional details have been released for Welcome To Derry but stay tuned as more information becomes available.
