Banishers: Ghosts of A New Eden – Life is Strange Developer Announces New Action RPG Game

Dontnod Entertainment made an appearance at The Game Awards with the reveal of their next game Banishers: Ghosts of a New Eden. The action RPG is a surprise from the developers who are well known for their dedication to the narrative-driven Life is Strange series. They were also the team behind Vampyr, although that title didn’t get much recognition or praise, it was a worthy title that many fans did enjoy and if Banishers shares any qualities with the 2018 game, this could be an interesting entry for the slate of RPGs releasing in 2023.

From the trailer, we see a man and a woman holding hands, the woman refers to this man as a banisher, a hunter of ghosts. we then see the woman dissipate into thin air which points to her being a spirit or ghost. We also get a peek at the gameplay and combat as the banisher fights a creature with a ghostly companion at his side.

The official website gives more detail on what the story will entail, writing:

“New Eden, 1695. Antea Duarte and Red mac Raith are lovers and Banishers, ghost-hunters who vowed to protect the living from the threat of lingering ghosts and specters. Following a disastrous last mission, Antea is fatally wounded, becoming one of the spirits she loathes. In the haunted wilds of North America, the couple desperately searches for a way to liberate Antea from her new plight.”

They also share some details about what the gameplay will encompass as they note that players will come across a beautifully intimate story of fated lovers. Players will immerse themselves into New Eden’s community and solve cases in the mystical world filled with lore and supernatural creatures as they play the roles of both Antea and Red to battle these supernatural forces and uncover ancient secrets. Antea will feature spiritual powers while Red will have an arsenal to banish the evil plaguing the lands.

Players will also be faced with challenging decisions that will dramatically impact the story of the game and also the people of New Eden. The studio also shares that players will have access to new gear and abilities in true RPG fashion while they roam the world making these choices that leaves the question of “How much will you compromise your ghost-hunting vow for the sake of your lover who became one of such spirits?”

Banishers: Ghosts of a New Eden will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC towards the end of 2023.
