Bad CGI Gator” is one of those movies where the title tells you exactly what it’s about…an alligator that is poorly rendered onto the screen, killing college kids played by adults. Creature features killing people have been dawning on the low-budget horror market for years, and it’ll never let up because nothing screams horror than college kids getting killed by a gator before their videos go viral.

Bad CGI Gator was immediately put on my radar when I first saw the title. When the trailer revealed it was from Full Moon Features (Puppet Master, Trancers, Evil Bong, Gingerdead Man), it had my complete undivided attention, as they tend to create cult classic movies at the turn of a dime.

Six college grads heading to a cabin in the Georgia swamplands to party and say “Bruh” and “Babe” a lot for spring break, we are introduced to our characters: Dude Bros 1 & 2, Obsessed with going viral Girls 1 & 2, and Characters with common sense 1 & 2.

While at this cabin, they decide to throw their school laptops into the lake; I cannot fathom why, but I guess that’s what Gen Z does, and for no reason at all, the laptops cause an alligator to get larger and become a “Bad CGI Gator,” and it’s hungry!

The dialogue is incredibly uncomfortable. What I mean by that is the movie tries to make the characters funny by giving them the one-note stereotypes we’ve seen a million times and then shoving them down our throats throughout the film’s first half and, in turn, makes them all unlikable where you will want them to get eaten by a “Bad CGI Gator.”

With that said, it’s tough to sit through the movie with all the “character development” that essentially goes nowhere; each character will say something that gives us a peek into their nature, but it is quickly forgotten because we need to do more “shots” and worry about going “viral.” On a positive note, every actor in this movie feels incredibly excited to be there, which is excellent considering the script they are working with.

Bad CGI Gator Review

While the whole script feels like it was written on a napkin, I can say that the deaths and actual acting are somewhat entertaining; no matter what the situation is, every character does something hilarious to the point where you end up rooting for them to succeed, and when they end up dead, it makes the movie ten times more entertaining, because every death was avoidable, let us not forget the main star of this movie, the poorly rendered CGI alligator.

The alligator is the funniest part of this entire movie. Every time it shows up on the screen, it’s forced into the scenes abruptly and will consistently do something silly in every shot; I was laughing the entire time. It’s safe to say that I recommend sitting down with some friends and having a watch party with this movie.
