Avatar: The Way of Water Trailer Reveals the Next Chapter in James Cameron’s Sci-Fi Epic
20th Century Studios has released the first trailer for the long-awaited sequel to James Cameron‘s sci-fi epic, Avatar: The Way of Water. This marks the first film in the planned four upcoming films that will expand Cameron’s vision of the Avatar universe that captured audiences in the original 2009 film. The other three sequels come to theaters every two years, in 2024, 2026, and 2028.
The trailer will reunite audiences with Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoey Saldana) fourteen years after the events of the first film. Sully has chosen to remain in the body of his avatar and lives happily alongside Neytiri. Now the proud parents of a son, their happiness is threatened by the return of humans as a new confrontation brew as they torment their planet once again. The film is set to put the spotlight on the new generation of Avatar with Sully and Neytiri’s son at the forefront.
The film will see the return of Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald. Also returning will be Sigourney Weaver in a different role. New cast members joining the adventure are Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, Vin Diesel, and CJ Jones. Cameron penned the script alongside Josh Friedman and will also produce the film with Jon Landau.
Avatar: The Way of Water is set to premiere in theaters on December 16th, 2022. Check out the trailer below:
